BREAKINGNEWS:

Uwem Ita Etuk threatens Akpabio/Udom over Onofiok Luke

By Comrade Idongesit Okpon

The Commissioner for Lands and Housing in Udom Emmanuel's interim government in Akwa Ibom State, Prince Uwem Ita Etuk is at loggerheads with former governor Godswill Obot Akpabio and his protege, Udom Emmanuel, over the recent selection of Mr Onofiok Luke as the speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, according to resources in the state PDP.

Sources said Prince Uwem Ita Etuk who is also former AKS PDP Chairman claims that Onofiok Luke who is from Etinan Federal Constituency should have no business in the office of the speaker because it was the turn of Uyo Federal Constituency to produce the speaker. He reportedly argued that since it was zoning that produced Mr Aniekan Uko from Uyo Federal Constituency, it was implicit that someone from that constituency be made to replace him. He added that the Constituency has some ranking members in the House who are qualified for the position of the speaker.

Mr Etuk revealed, according to sources, that Etinan Federal Constituency had already produced two speakers, Messrs Sam Ikon and Anietie Etuk and that it was clearly the turn of Uyo Federal Constituency. "This zoning arrangement informed the emergence of Mr Aniekan Uko as the speaker when the current Assembly was inaugurated," Mr Etuk reportedly said, adding that when the Appeal Court nullified Mr Uko's election, he should have been replaced with another person from Uyo Federal Constituency.

The Lands and Housing Commissioner reportedly threatened to mobilize the people of Uyo Federal Constituency to protest the imposition of Onofiok Luke as the speaker. Prince Etuk was said to argue that the choice of Onofiok Luke over lawmakers from Uyo Federal Constituency has made nonsense of the PDP argument about zoning in the state.

It should be recalled that Mr Etuk, an arrowhead of Akpabio/Udom imposition agenda physically visited violence on APC leaders and supporters in Ibesikpo/Asutan local government area during the April 11, 2015 gubernatorial election in Akwa Ibom State for PDP to win by all means.
