A probe is set to be launched by the House Committee for Internally Displaced Persons following reports on sex scandals in IDP Camps in the country.
The Chairman of the House Committee for Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs), Alhaji Sani Zoro (Jigaw APC) on Sunday, January 17, revealed that his committee had wrapped up plans to probe reported cases of sex scandals in the IDP camps across the country.
It was reported that officials at the camps give food to young girls and women in exchange for sex.
Zoro a member, representing Maigatari/Gumel/Gagarawa federal constituency made the shocking revelation yesterday while fielding questions from newsmen in Dutse.
He said that no particular organization was fingered for the crime but said at the committee level they would not rest on their oars until the culprits were brought to book. "There are allegation which we are trying to prove.
There are officials in the camp that take advantage of some young girls and women in order to give them preferential treatment when food and water are supplied.
He said: "I am not trying to make any particular reference to any organization. But this is highly irresponsible and unacceptable to us."
According to him, Nigeria has the highest number of displaced persons in the world over, saying at present the country had about 5 million IDPs scattered in 21 camps across the country.
He explained that in North East alone as at December last year there were 2.3 million IDPs while 2012 flood displaced 2.1million people adding this was with the exception of IDPs from Bakassi.
