APC boils as Ali Modu Sheriff Plots Defection
Former Borno State governor, Ali Modu Sheriff is moving to defect to the All Progressive Congress, multiple insider sources at APC headquarters have revealed.
The move comes amidst ongoing investigation of his eight year rule by the anti-graft agency (EFCC) in a petition filed by his old loyalists in Borno State.
The former governor has contacted the National Chairman of APC, John Oyegun and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
His move is however facing stiff opposition from his former godson, Kashim Shettima and forces that filed the EFCC petition against his eight year rule.
A source at the APC secretariat said, "I can confirm to you that Senator Sheriff has concluded arrangement to defect to the APC. Chief Oyegun is mediating between him and the Borno state governor.
"He has met the APC chairman and top Borno officials in Abuja. He is to make the declaration by this coming Thursday," the source said.
Supporters of the former governor have been briefed on the development, said a source within his group.
The brother of the former governor, Abu Modu Sheriff confirmed the story, saying "the decision was unanimously taken at the caucus meeting held in Abuja last Friday."
