APC wins 22 LGAs, 234 wards in Sokoto election
Mar 14 2016
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all the 22 local government areas and 234 wards in last Saturday's local government election in Sokoto State. The results were declared in Sokoto yesterday by Alhaji Usman Abubakar the Chairman, State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).
The election was conducted in 22 of the 23 local government areas. That of Gudu local government was cancelled because the logo of the major opposition party in the state, the PDP was missing on the ballot papers deployed to the area.
The chairman of the State Electoral Commission, Alhaji Usman Abubakar, said 10 wards were also affected by the cancellation and a new date would be fixed for the rerun election.
He described the election as free, fair and credible.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the result, saying the election was the worst ever conducted in the state.
Speaking to Daily Trust, Secretary of the party, Alhaji Kabiru Aliyu, said as far as the PDP was concerned this was not an election but a selection.
He described the local observers who hailed the election as credible, as apologists of the APC.
