ill get a total sum of N54,866,488,320 (Fifty four billion, eight hundred and sixty six million, four hundred and eighty eight thousand, three hundred and twenty naira) this year from rice exportation alone.
.
If they decide to sell all the 1.2 million tons of rice at the same rate, then they would have about N131 billion from the sales of rice alone. If we're generous and remove 50% of that amount for expenses, then we would be talking about a profit of about N65.5 Billion. Who says agriculture does not pay?
.
Their governor, Abdulahi Ganduje, said he was urged into this project by president Buhari, in his agenda to diversify the economy. Next year, it is expected that Kano State will produce 2 million tons of rice, which is 50% of Nigeria's rice need of about 4 million tons. If this is done successfully, then Kano State would compete favourably with Lagos State in IGR, and would be well ahead of all the oil-producing states including the lazy Rivers State.
.
Following the commitment of the Kano State government to key into President Buhari's diversification agenda, the CBN also gave out interest free loans to over 10,000 farmers in the state in the Anchor-Borrower program. Several other Nigerian states are beneficiary of this project, even our neighbouring Bayelsa State. Nigeria will be self-sufficient in rice consumption by the end of next year, and will become a net exporter of rice by 2018, one year before Buhari leaves office.
.
When Buhari said he was committed to diversifying Nigeria's economy, some people thought he was joking. But we're beginning to see the result... Those who are working are working, while those who are jumping from pillar to post playing fruitless politics of witch-hunting Amaechi are doing so. At the end of four years everyone will show his scorecard. While some people will show us insecurity, killings, destruction of properties, filling of potholes, propaganda, and devilish politicking, others will show us economic diversification and a large amount of IGR.
