East China landslide: Nine dead, 28 missing
Nine people were confirmed dead and 28 others remained missing after a landslide hit a village in east China's Zhejiang Province on Friday night, local authorities said.
The accident was reported at around 10:50 p.m. in Lidong village of Yaxi township in Lishui city, the city government said in a press release on Saturday.
As of Saturday afternoon, 10 people had been rescued. One of them is being treated in hospital and is in stable condition.
Over 20 homes in Lidong were buried by torrents of mud and rock, and more than 300 people have been evacuated from the village.
Rescue work and investigations on what caused the landslide are underway.
