BAYELSA POLLS:
THE SHARK AND THE SEA, BUT CAN THE SHARK SUBDUE THE SEA?
~Bodmas P. Kemepadei

The Bayelsa election has now become a famous tale of the "sea and the shark", so many persons have now glued themselves to their seat to watch how things will eventually unfold at the end.

Chief Timipre Sylva is popularly known as the Opuabadi (the sea or the ocean), while the incumbent governor, Gov. Seriake Dickson is known as the Ofurumapepe (the great white shark).

What bothers my mind is this, 'can the shark ever subdue the sea?' we all know it's impossible, probably that is why, despite the impressive win the Governor has made so far, winning six out of seven LGAs with a margin of 33,000 votes, he still could not be declared a winner of the polls.

Symbolically, The shark is a wild aquatic beast known to survive many tempest, therefore, the reference to Dickson as a great white shark was borne out of the desire to demonstrate that no matter how tempestuous the Opuabadi is, there are certain creatures it can't swallow, it also demonstrates that no matter the wave of the sea, the shark will eventually swim across it.

On the other hand, The sea is the biggest body of water known for it's vastness, it is deep and capable of swallowing whatever is thrown into it. Most times the sea remains calm even though it is the habitat of many wild aquatic beings. But when the sea is troubled, it unsettles and sometimes swallows whatever is on top, including the largest vessels and ships.

With the poll conducted so far, you can agree with me that we have witnessed the characteristics of both the sea and the shark, though the shark exhibited all it's attributes while the sea only exhibited it's calm attribute probably because it senses no danger, despite the sea being very calm, the great shark with all it's strength and energy could still not swim across it.

Now, that we are about to go into another polls on the 9th of January, with what we have witnessed so far, if eventually the sea exhibits it's tempest nature, proving it's the bringer of the greatest tempest, then certainly, the shark will not only be swallowed but will definitely perish at the bottom of the ocean.
