China's Telecom chief Chang Xiaobing under probe
China's anti-corruption move has expanded into the telecom sector as the country begins to investigate top officials from the telecom industry for the first time. Chang Xiaobing, the current chair of China Telecom and a former chairman of China Unicom, is being investigated for "severe disciplinary violations," according to the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection on Sunday.
Before transferring to China Telecom, one of China's three major telecommunication operators, in August, Chang was the head of China Unicom, another telecommunication giant in China.
In November last year, two senior executives from China Unicom were investigated for suspected violations of laws and regulations.
The investigation reflects China's stepped-up efforts to abolish corruption at state-owned enterprises, and China's senior leaders have demonstrated strong will and determination in fighting corruption, according to He Zengke, director of the China Center for Comparative Politics and Economics, who has been researching China's anti-corruption campaign for two decades.
