Insurgency: 36 State Govs Behind PMB – Tambuwal
Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, disclosed yesterday that governors of the 36 states in Nigeria are behind the federal government in ensuring that lasting peace is restored to the North Eastern part of the country.
Tambuwal, who urged religious leaders to champion the cause of the peace restoration via their respective teachings, noted that skewed teachings led to the ideologies that drive the current spate of insurgency in Nigerageia.
Speaking when the national leaders of the Jamaatul Izalatul Bid'a Wa Igatatus Sunna (JIBWIS) paid him a courtesy call, Tambuwal maintained that religious leaders have a very important role to play in the peace agenda.
"We all appreciated the need to confront the menace of insurgency with one voice. All of us fully support the president and our security agencies in ensuring that peace and normalcy return to the North East in particular and all parts of the country in general.
"People should be very vigilant and assist the security agencies in their responsibilities to secure the nation".
On his part, JIBWIS national leader, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, maintained that Tambuwal is a symbol of unity, especially in his concerted effort at enhancing understanding among various religious groups in Nigeria and beyond.
Jingir further commended Tambuwal's educational policies, citing his doggedness in ensuring education for all as a noble measure that should be emulated by all governors.
He advised President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently consider a broader step towards diversifying the nation's economy, noting that over-reliance on oil as the main source of Nigeria's income has brought untold hardship to the people.
