President Buhari Reduces Vehicles In Motorcade
President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly cut down the number of vehicles in his motorcade from 23 to 12 in an apparent bid to reduce the cost of governance.
Former president, Goodluck Jonathan maintained at least 23 vehicles in his motorcade but the new administration cut the number down.
The Senate president, Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representative, Yakubu Dogara continued to maintain 10 vehicles in their motorcades each while ministers have a maximum of four vehicles in their motorcade.
It was reported that the president urged his ministers to avoid long motorcades and long protocol.
Dr Chris Ngige, the minister of labour said the new administration would be"running a lean economy because we are going to block areas of leakages. Retinue of aides, protocol staff and large convoys of cars are things that will not fly in this administration."
The president's convoy included eight Mercedes cars, two BMW cars, one black Range Rover Sports Utility Vehicle, and one pick-up vehicle of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
The president had earlier rejected N400 million worth of cars when he took over stressing that he would use the ones left by the former president.
The Senate president's convoy includes a Mercedes-Benz S500, one staff car, and the other one serves as spare, two security vehicles, two jeeps, and two other cars that ferry his aides.
The Speakers convoy includes two S600 V12 Mercedes Benz which serve as the staff cars, two Land Cruiser SUVs, two police Hilux vans, one Camry LE and a Peugeot 406. There are also two dispatch riders that usually move in front of the speaker's convoy.
It was also observed that the ministers have also reduced their convoy with Babatunde Fashola, the minister of power, works and housing having a convoy of three Land Cruiser SUVs and one Prado SUV
