UPDATE: Maiduguri Attack: Two female suicide bombers disguised as fleeing residents detonate explosives, injuring scores
Following the pandemonium that broke out at the Jiddari Polo area of Maiduguri Sunday evening following Boko Haram's reported clash with security personnel and Civilian JTF at the outskirts of the city, two female suicide bombers have this evening detonated their explosives as soon as they blended with fleeing residents around a FOMWAN school, witnesses have told Daily Correspondents.
The attack which happened at about 8pm Sunday evening is believed to be a well thought out and carefully coordinated attack by Boko Haram on unsuspecting fleeing residents who had assembled themselves this evening and trekking to safety.
The Nigerian military had recently alerted Nigerians to fresh tactics being deployed by Boko Haram terrorists to gather people before setting off suicide bombs.
A Civilian JTF member who would not want his name mentioned because he was not authorised to speak to the press told Daily Correspondents on phone, "the female suicide bombers believed to have been primed with explosives had disguised themselves as fleeing residents and thereafter detonated explosives amongst the crowd, injuring scores of people, which include women and children.
"We are also engaging some of the Boko Haram militants and so far we have killed some of them while others are fleeing," he said.
Many of the injured in the suicide attack have been evacuated to the hospital and receiving treatment, this newspaper has learnt.
Figures of casualty could not be ascertained as at the time of going to press.
Several other explosives have been heard though it is not clear if such were from suicide bombings.
But it is suspected that some of these women may have sneaked into the city under the cover of the night taking advantage of the pandemonium.
More details later...
