Exposed! the Real Reason Why Metuh is Still in Detention - EFCC Explains
.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has given the true reasons why it has refused to release PDP spokesman, Olisa Metuh after it was accused of selective prosecution.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has provided reasons for its continued detention of Chief Olisa Metuh, the PDP National Publicity Secretary after the party accused it of targeting its members for prosecution.
In a statement released by the EFCC spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, in Abuja, he gave reasons why the agency has refused to release Metuh from detention. Uwujaren said Metuh is the one holding himself in detention because he has refused to refund money he collected linked to $2.1billion arms money or sign an undertaking to do so.
It was gathered that the PDP chieftain would gain freedom again the moment he satisfied the bail conditions. Uwujaren's statement also faulted the claim by the PDP that Metuh's detention was illegal as indicated in a statement by the National Legal Adviser of the People's Democratic Party, Mr Victor Kwon.
However, speaking on the release of APC Chieftain Jafaru Isa, he said Isa was released because he refunded money he collected unlike Metuh who has refused to refund money he collected.
"The attention of the EFCC has been drawn to a statement by the National Legal Adviser of the People's Democratic Party, Mr Victor Kwon. The statement has alleged compromise and witch-hunt in the release of a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, Brig.-Gen. Jafaru Isa (rtd), by the EFCC.
"While the EFCC will not wish to join issues with Kwon, it is important that the public is presented with the facts regarding the release of Isa. The reasons above and the fact that his health deteriorated after being admitted to custody prompted the commission to offer the suspect bail. The bail granted the suspect by the commission does not amount to his exoneration in the case," the statement added.
It said that the commission would not be intimidated by the campaign of calumny intended to distract it.
