PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari yesterday left for Doha, the Qatari capital after rounding off his weeklong state visit to Saudi Arabia. During his stay in Saudi Arabia, Buhari among others performed the lesser pilgrimage (Umrah) and embarked upon several bilateral discussions with officials of Saudi authorities.
Before departing the Jeddah International Airport at about 3 pm local time, the President, accompanied by members of his entourage performed the Tawaf Wadai, (farewell walk round the Ka'aba seven times) to round off his lesser hajj and to say farewell to the grand Mosque in Makkah.
While in Doha, the President is scheduled to attend the opening of the meeting of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, (OPEC) in that country before returning to Nigeria on Monday, (tomorrow).
The Acting Nigerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mr. Tijani Hammanjioda, told journalists that the President's visit had been very successful and rewarding to both countries.
In a chat, the envoy noted that the way the Saudi government welcomed the President shows that Buhari's global acceptability is not a fluke, citing the opening of the Ka'aba for the President and his entourage on Friday, he said the gesture is not usually availed to every president.
He noted that, with the visit, the joint commission by the two countries, which had been kept in abeyance for quite sometime would be reopened to enable the two enjoy formal trade relations.
