I HAVE NO MAGIC WAND TO EFFECT CHANGE ALONE, SAYS PRESIDENT
President Muhammadu Buhari said the much desired change from the path of corruption in high and low places requires the total commitment of all Nigerians as he does not have the magic wand to tackle it alone. He also expressed optimism that Nigerian youths can make the nation greater and better than it is currently. In his address at 25th Convocation of the Federal University of Technology, FUT, Minna, Niger State, Buhari noted that the people have to believe in, work for in order to actualise it. Speaking through the Director of Science and Technology, Federal Ministry of Education, Sandy Gandy Chega, the President noted: "Our administration came to power on the promise of change, changing our society from the path of corruption in high and low places is a task we all must be committed to.
It is not a magic wand that a single leader alone can use." Expressing belief in the Nigerian youth, he stated: "Today may be rough and tough, but tomorrow will be better. I have hope because I see in you inventors, problem solvers and leaders that will one day make Nigeria greater than my government will make it." The President also reiterated the commitment of his administration to enter a win-win synergy between it, the universities and industries on the other hand in agriculture and solid minerals in order to revamp the economy, while calling on the private sector to join in strengthening research and development in the area. He then commanded FUT Minna for the pioneering role it played in setting of a full-fledged school of entrepreneurship studies among Nigerian public universities, while urging it to continue to ensure that the training is more practical than theoretical. "I salute the vision of my predecessors for establishing and sustaining these specialised universities in Nigeria. Our administration recognises the importance of science and technology in national development."
