Lawyers task legislators on corruption war
-
The Coalition of Lawyers against Corruption in Nigeria, North West zone, has called on all professional bodies, private organizations and well-meaning individuals in the country to support President Muhammadu Buhari in his anti-corruptionfight.
They said eradicating corruption will boost Nigeria's image at home and in the comity of nations.
The coalition also seeks the support of legislators in the fight, so that they can formulate appropriate laws that will give strong backing to the government in its resolve to tackle corruption.
Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna, the North West Zonal Director of the coalition, Barrister Muhammed Sagir, said the body language of President Muhammadu Buhari on corruption and their support as a legal body, including enabling laws, will go a long way in triggering fears among government functionaries.
He said most government agencies are now scared of touching public funds.
"Our concept is to solicit the support of the government in engaging members of the coalition in order to follow up pending corruption cases in the court for prosecution, either by monitoring or by participating. Moreover, the coalition aims to monitor the activities and responsibilities of the various state governments to determine whether there are any elements of corruption in awarding contracts, particularly in the ministries and other governmental agencies as such shoddy deals would be traced and exposed.
