ORTOM SUES FOR PEACE; ASSURES ON FG INTERVENTION IN HERDERS/FARMERS CLASHES
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has appealed to the people of the state to remain calm and allow the government to find a lasting solution to clashes between herders and farmers.
Governor Ortom made the appeal while addressing the people of Nongov at Saghev in Guma Local Government Area of the state.
He assured the people that his recent meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was already yielding results as the Presidency had deployed a delegation to ascertain the level of crises in Agatu between herdsmen and farmers with a view to ending the clashes.
Governor Ortom said the Benue State Government would soon enact a law to stamp out kidnapping and other forms of violence in the state, stressing that development could only thrive in an atmosphere of peace.
The Governor thanked the people of Nongov for the support given him as Governor and restated the commitment of his administration to constructing roads in the area, building primary health centres and numerous other projects for the people.
He said he had returned home to present his Governorship to the District Head of Saghev, Tyoor Uwouku Abanka and the entire people of the area for their blessing as he had promised them before the 2015 elections.
Earlier, Tyoor Uwouku Abanka commended Governor Ortom for the efforts his administration was making in the area of security and education. He assured the Governor of the people's continued support, calling on him to address the problem of roads and security in the area and other parts of the state.
Also Speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, Dr. Magdalene Dura, described Governor Ortom as a leader who had shown the commitment to match his words with appropriate action in all sectors of the economy.
Others who spoke on the occasion included former Head of Service of Benue State, Mr Mike Iordye and the Caretaker Chairman, Guma LGA, Mr Samuel Aga.
