Why Buhari Appointed New VCs for 9 Federal Universities - Committee of VCs
President Muhammadu Buhari did not sack the Vice Chancellors who were on Saturday relieved of their positions, the Secretary-General, Committee of Vice-Chancellors (CVC), Michael Faborode, has said.
According to him, the president appointed new VCs because the tenures of the latter would expire on Feb. 15.
Reports had said the Federal Government sacked the Vice Chancellors of 12 Federal Universities that were established by the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
But Mr. Faborode of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors said, "The tenure of the vice-chancellors of nine of these universities expires on Feb. 15.
"It will be unfair to say that they were sacked; they have exhausted their tenure; when your tenure is not renewed; it does not mean you are sacked.
He however expressed surprise that three of the 12 VCs whose tenure wasn't about to expire were sacked.
"I do not know the reasons why the vice-chancellors of the other three universities were affected,'' Mr. Faborode said.
