Delta Gov't To Rehabilitate Ese Oruru

The Delta State government on Wednesday promised to fully participate in the rehabilitation process for 14-year-old abductee Ese Oruru and to return her to school after she delivers her child.

Ms. Oruru was kidnapped and taken to Kano State last year. She was forced into marriage and impregnated by her alleged abductor, Yunusa Dahiru, popularly known as "Yellow," an indigene of Delta State.

The Delta State government delegation led by the State Commissioner for Information, Patrick Ukah, visited Ms. Oruru and her parents in the presence of the State Commissioner of Police, Peter Ogunyanwo. Mr. Ukah said the Delta State government would work with the Bayelsa State government to ensure Ms. Oruru returns to school and is fully reintegrated into society.

Mr. Ukah said they were happy that the young girl was doing well since returning to Bayelsa State from Kano State.

"Ese is a resident in Bayelsa State and as such is a responsibility of that State government. However, she is a citizen of Delta State. Being a citizen of Delta State, we know we have a responsibility to give Ese her life back," Mr. Ukah said.

He continued, "We will definitely join hands with the Bayelsa State government and Ese's family to rehabilitate her. We, as a responsible government, have no intention of leaving her without the much needed assistance and support."

Mr. Ukah, who praised the authorities responsible for the safe return of Ms. Oruru to Yenagoa, said the law should take its full course against the man who allegedly abducted her.
