Nasarawa NLC Suspends Strike
After painstaking rounds of negotiations, the organised labour in Nasarawa State has suspended its three weeks old industrial action after reaching consensus with the state government.
In an agreement signed by the Joint State Public Service Negotiating Council and the organised labour on Saturday, 20th February, 2016, it agreed to earlier terms and concessions made by government.
It was agreed that government shall pay public servants who were promoted between 2011 and June, 2014 and yet to enjoy corresponding financial benefits within four months, but not later than 30th June, 2016.
Also part of the agreement is for government to, as a matter of urgency, constitute the membership of the State Civil Service Commission.
"Government shall process all promotions that are due from July, 2014 to January, 2016 without financial benefits in view of the present financial predicament of government until the economic situation improves. Subsequent promotions shall be processed as at when due".
Similarly, all increments due from 2011 to December, 2014 are waived in view of the present financial predicament of government. However, government has agreed to implement one incremental step of 2015 to all public servants with full financial backing with effect from 1st July, 2016.
On issues concerning local governments, it was agreed that the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs shall address the issues of all omissions and underpayments arising from the biometric/data capture exercise in the payment of staff salaries.
"That in consultation with ALGON, the monthly allocation of funds for Local Government Pensioners shall be reviewed upward from 7 per cent to 9 per cent of the allocation from the federation account. However, the Pension Committee set up under this agreement shall ascertain the authentic number of pensioners in every local government".
