Senator Kabiru Mafara is at it again: this time he has laid the blame for the budget controversy at the doorsteps of the Senate President Bukola Saraki, accusing the Kwara politician of orchestrating the budget controversy to sabotage President Buhari. By seeking to draw a wedge between President Buhari and Senator Saraki, Mafara is hiding behind the issue to advance the tendentious agenda of his own group, the Unity Forum, to accelerate the downfall of Saraki to install their own candidate. Of course, the case is between Saraki and CCT, but why is the Forum not ready to wait for the outcome of the case? Instead, it is desperately determined to force the hands of justice. Worse still, they want to cause bad blood between Saraki and President Buhari to advance their own agenda to stampede Saraki out of office whether he is convicted or not.
The Minister of National Planning Mr. Udo. Udoma publicly explained what led to the budget controversy. And the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed also explained that there were mistakes in the budget, but ruled out any fraud. None of them said that the budget problem was originated by Saraki to blackmail President Buhari because of his case before the CCT.
Therefore, I find it preposterous to invent malicious lies against a fellow politician because you're desperate for his coveted seat, and even go to the asinine extent of pitting him against the President in the blind pursuit of that ambition.
Let's not forget that there is life beyond politics. We should not maliciously sacrifice valued friendships of many years, and destroy inestimable loyalties built in the course of political associations and alliances. To portray Saraki as Buhari's enemy to advance your own desperate ambition is unhealthy and wicked.
Senator Saraki is not and could not have been Buhari's enemy. Saraki was initially pursuing a presidential ambition, and said loud and clear that Buhari is the only man he could abandon his ambition for. And he kept his words at the APC national convention where he mobilised his supporters and political associates to vote for Buhari during the presidential primaries.
It pains me to imagine that anybody would now come out to suggest that the Senate President is Buhari's enemy who is allegedly sabotaging the President. Don't drag Buhari into your fight for power; use your own moral and political clout to achieve your ambition. Some people are so extraordinarily wicked that they won't mind lying maliciously against their brothers to attain power. These sadists can do anything to get what they want. One Director from a Federal Ministry died a few years back at Zone 2 Wuse Abuja. One of his office colleagues didn't even wait for the man to be buried before he rushed to his house brandishing allocation letter before the deceased family, claiming to be the new owner of the house!
That is the extent some people can go to build themselves on the misfortunes or ruins of others. I am always suspicious of the so-called and opportunistic Unity Forums or Integrity Groups in the National Assembly. Former House of Reps Member Farouk Lawan was the leader of the so-called Integrity Group that ousted former Speaker Patricia Etteh over the House renovation scandal to install his own candidate Bankole. He was not fighting Etteh because he was committed to zero tolerance for corruption. He was fighting her because she removed him as the Chairman of the lucrative Education Committee. When Bankole became Speaker, he reinstated Lawan as Chairman of the Education Committee, and we didn't hear about the so-called Integrity Group again. To cut a long story short, Mr. Integrity is currently facing trial for corruption. I am always suspicious of opportunistic moral "heroes" like Mafara who are merely dropping President Buhari's name to advance their political ambitions by hanging on his coattails. The scales should drop from the eyes of those clapping for Mafara.
